The new Saffron Walden Town Trail was officially launched on Sunday 4 November by the Mayor and Mayoress of Saffron Walden, Cllr Sarfraz Anjum and Mrs Lubana Anjum. They unveiled the first trail plaque outside the Tourist Information Centre, along with the plaque designer, John Ready, and the Chairman of the Saffron Walden Initiative, Peter Riding.
Peter Riding said: ’This has been a unique collaboration between Saffron Walden Town Council, Uttlesford District Council, Essex County Council, Saffron Walden Partnership Board, Tourist Information Centre, Blue Badge Guides, Uttlesford Access Group, Saffron Walden Library, Fry Art Gallery and Saffron Walden Museum – co-ordinated by the Saffron Walden Initiative.’
Cllr Anjum said: ’Particular thanks should go to Sarah Saward, the Market Towns Project Officer who initiated the whole project and successfully applied for grant funding; John Ready who designed the plaques and supervised their manufacture and installation; Gordon Ridgewell who took all the photographs for the accompanying Pictorial Guide; Sarah Kirkpatrick who researched and wrote the text for the Trail leaflet and Pictorial Guide; and Elizabeth Blackie who helped direct the whole project as Uttlesford’s Tourism Officer.’
The free Town Trail leaflet is available from the Tourist Information Centre, Saffron Walden Library and Saffron Walden Museum. It can also be downloaded here (pdf, 3.3 MB)
