IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS OR CARERS OF YOUNGER SAFFRON WALDEN SKATEPARK USERS  (19 Apr 2010)

Important information for parents or carers of younger Saffron Walden Skatepark users

The main Skatepark should not be used by children under the age of 10. The mini Skatepark was built specifically  to cater for the younger users’ needs and to allow them to learn their skills in a safe area.

The Saffron Walden Skate Group, who run and maintain the Skatepark, have become very concerned by the increasing presence of young and inexperienced children on the main Skatepark

This facility has been designed for extreme skating and biking and is not a safe play area. The main Skatepark is challenging with its deep bowls and is designed to be used by faster, heavier, older skaters and bikers. These older users are frankly worried about inadvertently colliding with an inexperienced youngster. Even without a collision a child faces many dangers on the main Skatepark, including toppling into one of the deep bowls. The younger children have not yet learnt to be aware of everything happening at speed around them and are not equipped to deal with the fast flow of the older users. Falling into a 12 foot deep bowl and landing on the concrete can wreck a child’s life for ever.

We therefore, respectfully, ask all parents and carers to be vigilant and to be aware of which part of the skate complex their children are using.

Importantly, we again advise that all users should wear protective gear and in particular helmets when on any part of this skating facility.

A serious accident at the Skatepark would be a tragedy for any user, their family and everyone involved - it would also put the future of the Skatepark in jeopardy.
